Christmas Party
Swap Meet
Waltham Chase Aeromodellers are holding a swapmeet at Otterbourne Village Hall, Otterbourne, Hants, SO21 2ET, on Saturday, 30th. October 2010 from 10.00a.m. to 1.00 p.m.
Otterbourne Village Hall is reached by exiting the M3 at junction 12. Follow the signs to Otterbourne, travelling down Otterbourne Hill. The village hall is on the left hand side just past the church, and is approached via Cranbourne Drive. The village hall has an extensive free car park.
Admission to the swapmeet will be £2.00 for adults, whilst accompanied children will be admitted free.
Tables can be booked for £5 each. Please contact Chris Carr (details below) for table bookings.
Light refreshments will be available throughout the event.
This swapmeet is the ideal opportunity for modellers to dispose of unwanted kits, models, engines and all kinds of modelling equipment, raising some cash in the process for the purchase of more urgently required items. For those looking to spend some money, this could provide the opportunity of locating that sought after kit, or perhaps a much needed engine at a bargain price, or maybe a finished model to fly during the winter.
Flitehook, who will be bringing their range of general aeromodelling products, will be in attendance.

Small R/C Evening
In light of the popularity of our small R/C models held on 8th April, we have decided to hold additional Indoor R/C Small Models Meeting in the Main Hall at Wickham Community Centre, Mill Lane, Wickham, Hants PO17 5AL on Thursday, 6th. May 2010 and 3rd June 2010 from 7.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. This is the venue at which we hold our popular indoor F/F meetings. The hall is not large enough for the conventional shock flyers, but should prove suitable for smaller indoor R/C models. Admission will be £4 for adult fliers, and £1 for junior fliers and adult spectators. Accompanied junior spectators will be admitted free. Fliers need to bring proof of insurance.
Please find a flyer here giving details of the meeting. Although we have stated a maximum weight limit for fixed wing models, this may be increased slightly on the night provided any such model can be flown safely, and in the spirit of the event, without causing undue difficulties for other models. We are intending that this event will be a trial for further similar events in the future, and will be attempting to refine the limitations we apply to models on the basis of our experience on the night.
Assuming the event is successful, we intend to hold further meetings throughout next winter. These will be in addition to our regular meetings held at Havant.
We look forward to meeting all those pilots and spectators with an interest in Small R/C Models at this event.
Words to the wise
It happened again this morning - an electric prop bites its master! The transmitter strap holding a "live" transmitter allowed the tranny to swing against its owners chest. The pilot was carrying a plane with a "live battery - and the throttle stick went to ON! The prop took this command and ate the inner forearm ....
ALWAYS carry the transmitter with your left thumb holdihng the throttle OFF - better yet, when you land, put the transmitter down, ON IT'S BACK and disconnect the battery. The reason to put the transmitter on the ground, ON ITS BACK, is it usually falls on its front and the throttle goes to FULL ON. Same results.
Using the transmitter neck strap can also get you into trouble (just like ties, lose clothing, hat straps etc.), don't go anywhere near that "hot battery/prop" combo with it dangling from your neck.
A good idea also would be to carry a small first aid kit - if you never need it, maybe one of your mates might - at least some antiseptic and bandages.
